I'm sitting here waiting for my daughter to finish her spinach. I could be here for a while. She has turned complaining about eating vegetables into an art. JC and I have both had to leave the room for a period of time because the frustration was overwhelming. Between the looks of agony and the fake gagging it's a dinner show, although maybe not one you would want to watch during dinner. Did I forget about the tears?
And I channeled my father. That's right. The words "You are not leaving this table until that spinach is gone" came out of my mouth. I actually remember, correctly or not, liking spinach myself, so I'm not sure that he said that to me - but I'm sure you could replace the word spinach with something else that would fit. Like maybe liver? (And I still don't like liver! Blech.)
So I am sitting here venting about this instead of sitting on top of her and force feeding her spinach. And thinking about tigers and how they may, at some point, have the right idea....

You need to sing Popeye's theme song.
Mary, how could you do that to your sweet little girl? I swore when I had kids I would never make them eat something that I myself couldn't stand. i.e. brussel sprouts....yuck, still can't stand them, made me gag everytime my mom tried to make me eat them. With Cheyanne I make her eat at least two bites then she can walk away. She can't stand kidney beans. Whenever I make chili, she picks all the beans out. BTW..I don't like liver either. Remind me sometime to tell you a story about me, Daryl, & brussel sprouts.
Debbie, very easily. Considering every time she sees the doctor she asks Katie if she's eating vegetables I pretty much have to sit on her. And she likes spinach so she was just being stubborn.
And I will never make her eat brussel sprouts, although since they are her father's favorite she may end up liking them...not that I would ever make them....
Well, at least you didn't have to pull anything out of the garbage to make her eat it.... I seem to remember something about Dad, you, and hot dogs in the garbage......... hee hee
I remember MANY a long night at the dinner table. And then finding out at 14 that my teeth never came out all the way and, wait, what was that? I COULDN'T CHEW MEAT! Thanks Dad for all those nights at the dinner table! :)
(actually, I used to stuff it in my cheeks and go spit it out in the bathroom)
mary-
cooked spinach==waterboarding, dammit!!
fresh spinach is the thing to do, either in a salad or something. cooked spinach looks like a big ol' sneeze leftover!! dont do that to that poor little girl!! please? (katie...i'm here for ya!)
Verry interesting. Likes spinach, but wouldn't eat it. Ok she was playing you. Since Rebecca shared her story, I'll share mine. My mom made brussel sprouts one night and then went off to work. I don't know if you knew, but she worked 2nd shift. Anyway, it was Andrew's job to keep an I eye on me & Daryl. He thought he was so smart, he was going to make us eat those brussel sprouts. When he went downstairs to his bedroom, Daryl got up, went over to the pot and dumped his brussel sprouts back in, then told me to do the same. Andrew never had any idea.
Becky, I thought you just had fat cheeks. My bad. ROFLMAO
Libby, these were little breaded spinach puff type things, not runny cooked spinach. They were actually really good. Next time I'm going to serve them with marinara sauce though.
Tonight she ate spinach lasagna, so I got the spinach in her anyway. LOL
Debbie, I'm going to have to watch Katie if JC serves her brussel sprouts, that sounds like something she'd do. Although I might be meeting her at the pot...
