Fun at the zoo. Before my sweet little 4 year old turned into a 13 year old and started hating me. How does that happen this young?


She's going to be 5 at the end of this month. Does that mean I have to change my blog title?

Katie spent the night at my Mom & Dad's this weekend. Mom and Dad were taking her upstairs to bed and Katie turned to them and said "I'll have you know your daughter sleeps naked."

Someone please pipe in with something worse. Please? Ugh.

Happy Father's Day!!!!

Happy Father's Day to all the great dad's out there!!! JC had to be at the firehouse today, so we celebrated yesterday. Guess what he wanted for Father's Day? An ice cream maker! Guess we all win on that one!

JC is in such trouble

JC took Katie out last night to a carnival. I was out with my sisters. Apparently I need to hire a babysitter for JC too. Katie's bed time is 8 pm. I got back home at around 8:30 pm. No Katie or JC. I went up to our room and started watching TV. At 9:30 pm, I heard them come in the front door. I'm listening to them and had to laugh at Katie.

JC: Go upstairs. Mommy is probably up there.

Katie: I'm going to tell her that you kept me out late.

JC: Narc.

She cracks me up because she always wants to make sure she's not getting blamed for anything. What was even funnier though was JC saying "She's making it sound like it's my fault!" I said, "Does she drive? She's 4, whose fault do you think it was?"

By the way, did I mention that her face was covered in blue cotton candy?

Sunday was Katie's first dance recital. Okay, well dance may be stretching it. My father took a video of it - in 3 pieces because we kept thinking it was over. I have to say that I had tears streaming down my face because I was laughing so hard. Make sure if you watch the video that you have your sound up - so you can hear everyone else laughing... If you don't watch any of the other videos, make sure you watch the 3rd one. It's my favorite and has me cracking up every time. Can you have a mid-life crisis at the age of almost 5?

It is Katie's last week of pre-school. Ever. Apparently, this has been driven home a few too many times today, and not knowing this, inadvertently pushed my child over the edge. I was looking at the things she had brought home from school today and asked her if it were her last day at school. She told me that it wasn't because they have school picnics for the next two days. But then she's done with pre-school and she "doesn't have to go back. Ever!"

I followed up with telling her "you know what that means... you go to kindergarten next fall!" She said "I don't want to go the big kids school!!... I don't want to be a big kid! (getting louder).. I want to be a little kid!!" At this point she is jumping up and down in complete desperation and big crocodile tears are running down her face. I felt so bad for her. But more so for me. I was planning on being the one not handling this well! Now all of a sudden I have to be strong for her because she's not handling it well? So not fair!

And yes, I did give her a big hug and tell her that she would always be my baby. I also told her that the big kids school had a class for little kids in it, not to worry, she wasn't going to be a big kid right away. She calmed down, but I still feel bad. She's got a rude awakening coming.

Who's the grown up here?

Katie has been having bad dreams about a rhino eating her. That might sound odd unless you've watched the movie James and the Giant Peach. Good movie, but does have a somewhat scary scene with this rhino. She's had this dream four or five times now over the course of a month. What's odd is that she saw the movie months and months ago and is just now starting to have the dreams.

This morning I told her that I thought we should draw a picture of a rhino tonight and then cut it up into little bits so it goes away forever. My "mature" daughter said, "No we should cut him out and play with him." "Ah, so when you see him in your dreams he'll want to play with you, huh?" She's a smart cookie.

Pics and Conversation

Here's my cheesy Easter girl and the bunny cake that we made for Easter.


I had a conversation with Katie today. I have been noticing lately that the full-length mirror on our bathroom door has been massively smudged, smeared, shall we say...messed up.


I hadn't thought too much about it because I assumed that I knew who was behind it. I was corrected this evening. Apparently it's a mystery..although there is a suspect.


I was getting Katie ready for bed and we were in the bathroom. As we were walking out she said...


"Why is there steam still on the mirror?"


Me: That's not steam, someone messed up the mirror.


Katie: Not me!


Me: I wonder what whoever did that used to get the mirror looking like that.


Katie: I didn't do it, but I think maybe they were trying to clean the mirror and maybe they used a wipe.


Me: Well, that didn't help did it?


Katie: No, and maybe they used a little bit of soap too!


Me: Soap? Well we know that doesn't work either, huh? I hope that whoever it was doesn't do that again.


Katie: It wasn't me. I think it may have been Cynthia when I wasn't here to tell her.


So, Cynthia? Why are you messing up my mirrors?

Almost Easter....

Katie is pretty excited about Easter. Although the most excited I saw her was when I was telling her what Good Friday and Easter represented. We had to have a small chat about the fact that she thought Jesus was coming back tomorrow.

We are coloring Easter eggs tonight at JC's sister's house, so I will try to remember to take the camera with and post pics.

Hello!

We took Katie to the Shedd Aquarium today. They have a new lizard exhibit and she is a reptile nut so, of course, we had to go. She had a great time leading us around the place. Seeing that we were not home during nap time, she was able to skip her nap today. When I put her to bed I told her that since I hadn't put her down for a nap, I expected her to go right to sleep. I was told that her brain had been asleep and that she had been sleep walking, so she really had taken a nap.

She got a star fish painted on her face while we were there. I took pictures, but I'll post them tomorrow. When the woman asked her what she wanted, she said a kitty. I told her that she better look at the pictures on the table. It was more of a fishy thing. LOL

Hello

Well, Katie and I spent the day at my office. I know, real exciting isn't it? Thank God for portable DVD players! She watched two movies and colored pictures. She was actually very good. I know that I promised pictures of her new doo, but we've been having technical difficulties.

My daughter has decided that she doesn't want to go to school anymore. Can you say rude awakening?

She's walking around right now singing "I've got a never-ending love for you.....". That would be the song that one of her teddy bears sings. If anything will drive JC crazy, it will be that bear. Ugh. Now the bear is singing. Guess I'm going to be the one driven crazy.

I know that I said I'd post pics of Katie's new haircut (which by the way is very cute!) but the little lady was fighting a high fever all weekend and is now being medicated for strep. Hopefully she'll be feeling up to some pictures tonight.

Fun at the Firehouse

Katie went to visit Daddy at work the other day. Looks like she had a great time!

Katie has been great lately. I'm afraid to say that too loud in case I jinx myself and she turns into "evil Katie" tomorrow, but oh well.

She trimmed her hair again, so she is getting her wish, we are getting her hair cut tomorrow. I'll try to post pics later this weekend. JC is at the firehouse tomorrow, so Katie and I are going to go get her hair cut, got visit Nana & Papa for a while, come home and later in the day order pizza, watch movies and have a sleep over in my room. Hopefully I'll get some sleep.

Sunday is the Southside Irish Parade and I'm trying hard not to break my tradition of not being there. I know, not very festive of me, but I don't like crowds, especially drinking crouds. However, JC is walking in the parade and he's going to clean off Katie's wagon and pull her with him. She didn't want to walk with him, she was afraid someone would step on her feet! Kid's smart. I will be headed to work. Much fun will ensue.

Miss you all. Hopefully soon I will be able to return to my regularly scheduled program. I have posted a couple things on my other blog if you get really bored. :)

I'm alive

Sorry I've been scarce lately but this is a busier busy season than usual for me. I can't wait for the end of April. I thought I'd take a few minutes to update everyone on how we're doing.

Oh, and by the way, guess who decided that Furby talked too much and hasn't had it turned on since the second day she had it? I think I'm going to put it away and give it to her later.

All you furby loving people who talked me into getting a four year old a furby even though the age on them is six... I'm expecting an answer as to when you are planning on coming over to give me a break from TALKING TO THIS DUMB THING! I will admit he is cute, but I am the one that is trying to learn furbish so someone can talk to him while teaching Katie how to talk to him.

Hi Everyone

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. It's my busy season at work and I've been sick the past few days. Katie isn't any less interesting, mommy just hasn't had the energy.

Katie has been enjoying ballet class and I will be posting a picture later of her in her little dress. Too cute! I just wanted to pop in and say hi because I hadn't been around. I haven't even had the energy to check up on my favorite bloggers.

Hopefully my energy level will improve soon and I'll be around more.
