Bits and Pieces

Okay, I know everyone is going to be disappointed, but Katie was in a play yesterday and I forgot my camera. I'm hoping that I can link my dad's video, but I haven't seen it yet, so I'm not sure how it came out. She played a momma pony and was quite cute. I think drama might be her thing, she seems to enjoy it. I'll pause now for the shocked silence. Shocked

She has come up with a couple zingers lately, so I thought I would share those. Her first was to tell Cynthia that if her husband was coming to the play to make sure that he wore a tie because she wanted him to be dressed fancy. She also made Cynthia dress up which was funny because she said nothing about the fact that I was wearing jeans. And trust me, I was afraid to come downstairs so she could see me. I thought I'd be sent back upstairs to change.

Her other comment was about video games. She was watching a commercial and said "We can't have video games, we don't have the technology." I had to laugh, the real reason we don't have video games is because she and her father would be sitting in front of the games 24/7. But she is technically correct, so I gave it to her.

I realized yesterday that she's been feeding me lines lately like she knew I needed something to get me blogging. I'm sure that she'll keep it up. Smile

Halloween 2006 Pics

Here are some Halloween pictures! Katie had a great time, but told me when she was done. She knows when she's had enough! Daddy ended up carrying her the rest of the way. Smile

Hello everyone!

Where to start....

Well, Katie's drama class seems to be going well. She's in a play in November and she has the part of the mama pony. She has a few lines to say and seems to have them down already. She is the mama of three little ponies, so it should be right up her alley since she's always mothering everyone. She can take the most innocuous item and say "ooohhh, look at the baaabbbyyy". Everything is a baby. She's obsessed.

For Christmas she has requested a baby that poops. I expressly stated that there was no way I was changing a dolls diaper. She assured me that she would change the diapers. At least I can put away a doll if she doesn't take care of it.. which leads me to the dog.

Sherlock is growing up but is not quite trained. I mean, I think he's house broken. I wouldn't know for sure because he isn't allowed to run around the house yet, he's either outside or in his crate unless JC is home - usually by himself - or after Katie goes to bed. I'm hoping that with winter coming, someone, ahem, will take some time to train him and get him used to being out WITH Katie around. And getting Katie used to Sherlock being around also.

I have about 100 pictures of Katie's first day of school, courtesy of Cynthia, who decided to play Papparazzi that morning. I won't make you look at all of them, lol, but here are a few.

Lining up for the first time:

A little angst about the first day... for both of us:

Well, that was a short moment. For her.

Okay, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll write more later, but I have to think back to what has been coming out of her mouth lately. LOL

I am still alive

Don't think that I have run out of things to tell you about Katie. She comes up with something pretty much daily if not more often. I just have noticed a decided lack of time lately. I'm sorry if you are missing pearls of wisdom from my daughter, trust me she would like everyone to hear them I'm sure.
I promise I'll work on this decided lack of communication this weekend, I'm beginning to get complaints.

And it starts...

"I don't like homework" "We had no fun! no fun! no fun!" "I already KNOW my numbers"

Yes, school has started. Little miss is now in the big K. Kindergarten. I had more problems than her the first day. And now reality has started to set in on the little darling and she has figured out that school is work. I know what your thinking - because I have said it - RUDE awakening coming. She thinks this is bad, at least they are still coloring. What I want to know is why does daddy get "school was fun"? At least she did follow up with - but not gym class. Apparently they did some boring exercises and didn't get to play. I do kinda feel sorry for her because I'd like her days to be filled with playing - but the real world awaits - shaking in fear if they know what's good for them.

In other news, Katie went to a cattle farm recently and was able to see cows giving birth. One of the cows was having a problem and needed some help. Should I really need to be explaining natural childbirth vs. c-section to a 5 year old? At least she isn't asking how the baby gets in, just how it gets out.

Katie's theatre class starts in another week - you saw that one coming too didn't you?

I will post pictures of the first day of school laterl You know that I have them - had to memorialize this event.

Long awaited for birthday party pics.. uh huh

I've been getting yelled at for not posting so here we go. To be fair we did just get back from vacation. To be honest we just left last Friday, so we weren't gone that long. I will have to post some vacation pics later, we had a lot of fun.

Katie is coming up with quotes faster than I can write them down. She has made a visible change having turned 5. It's like she feels a year (okay 10) older. And can I just say - I don't like it!!! Okay, that's done.

And my 5 year old doing her nails for the first time like she's been doing them for 10 years already. Ugh.

Oops ... forgot a couple pictures...

Birthday celebration with the cats....

It's amazing how quiet she can be when we're sleeping.

Pictures as promised

Katie's new bike.

Island girl Katie
My little pre-teen... I had to have them do one shot zoomed in on the feet. Gotta love kids' feet.
Her close up.

Now, I know that you guys are going to be shocked by this, but the woman taking her picture laughed at her because when she said "Ready?" once to Katie while she wasn't really paying attention, Katie immediately got on point. It was hysterical - like she was at a real model photo shoot.

Life with a FIVE year old!!!!

Today is Katie's birthday! Actually she turns 5 well after she will be asleep tonight, butI'm not going to bother her with the details. I'm sure that I'll have more than one post about her birthday since we started celebrating yesterday and her actual party isn't until next Sunday. We just couldn't get our act together - and really still haven't since we're doing a guest list more by word of mouth than sending invitations! So if you are reading this, you're invited! LOL

Yesterday we went to get her picture taken and buy her big birthday present. This morning when JC and I got up we realized she had already started celebrating with the cats.

I seem to be having trouble posting pics this morning, so I'll try again later.
But in the meantime....
Happy Birthday Make A Wish Birthday Gifts

At work with Katie

Yesterday Katie went to work with me. We are just now recovering. We moved my office on Friday, so this was a new area for her to explore. Luckily we had no one from outside the office coming in yesterday because she had taken over. Amidst the boxes I set up my wipe board for her and let her go with the markers. She did quite a bit of artwork complete with her name. I should take the camera tomorrow and take a picture of it.

She also had brought her barbies - naked of course, stuffed animals and a dinosaur. She set them up around the conference room table but left one seat for herself and one for - my boss. She then convinced him to have a meeting. Apparently had a lot to tell him about her cousin Patrick and how he was killing off the pets. I personally think Patrick is getting a bad rap, it was one pet and I don't know that Patrick had anything to do with it, but I'm investigating.

She also made my bosses office the place where the "bad" animals had to go for a time out. Luckily my boss is great with kids and his daughter is on vacation with his wife so he needed a kid fix. I guess it could have been worse. She could have started talking about sleeping attire. Ahem.

Nana gets busted!

Finally someone else is getting in trouble!

Katie was at Mom & Dad's yesterday and was taking a walk with Nana. She had been trying to get Nana to say hi to everyone they saw, but when Nana stopped to talk to one of the neighbors Katie went running back to the house to tell Papa "Nana is talking to strangers, you'd better come!" Papa walked around the house with her and told her that it was okay because Nana knew the person. When Nana told Katie that she knew the person (Nana had not known why Katie had run off) Katie told her, "Well you didn't introduce me, how was I supposed to know?"

I have repeated what I have been told, if there are any errors I'm sure that someone - Dad - could clear them up.

That's my kid - she tattles on everyone! But at least I know she has the stranger concept down.

Pool time!

Okay, here' s the munchkin!!! Who, by the way, has been her usual sweet self 90% of the time lately. I know it won't last, but I'm going to enjoy it while it does.

Okay, on to something more fun...for me...

Fun at the zoo. Before my sweet little 4 year old turned into a 13 year old and started hating me. How does that happen this young?

She's going to be 5 at the end of this month. Does that mean I have to change my blog title?

By the way, that's daddy in the tree in case you didn't notice him.

Let's play how have your kids embarrassed you!

For those of you who don't have kids, you can sit back and laugh at everyone else.

Katie spent the night at my Mom & Dad's this weekend. Mom and Dad were taking her upstairs to bed and Katie turned to them and said "I'll have you know your daughter sleeps naked."

Someone please pipe in with something worse. Please? Embarrassed Ugh.

JC is in such trouble

JC took Katie out last night to a carnival. I was out with my sisters. Apparently I need to hire a babysitter for JC too. Katie's bed time is 8 pm. I got back home at around 8:30 pm. No Katie or JC. I went up to our room and started watching TV. At 9:30 pm, I heard them come in the front door. I'm listening to them and had to laugh at Katie.

JC: Go upstairs. Mommy is probably up there.

Katie: I'm going to tell her that you kept me out late.

JC: Narc.

She cracks me up because she always wants to make sure she's not getting blamed for anything. What was even funnier though was JC saying "She's making it sound like it's my fault!" I said, "Does she drive? She's 4, whose fault do you think it was?"

By the way, did I mention that her face was covered in blue cotton candy? Blue Mix

Katie's debut

Katie's debut

Sunday was Katie's first dance recital. Okay, well dance may be stretching it. My father took a video of it - in 3 pieces because we kept thinking it was over. I have to say that I had tears streaming down my face because I was laughing so hard. Make sure if you watch the video that you have your sound up - so you can hear everyone else laughing... If you don't watch any of the other videos, make sure you watch the 3rd one. It's my favorite and has me cracking up every time. ETA: You need to sign on to see the videos - my login is mvid55@yahoo.com and the password is tigger.

And here are some pictures - For everyone who has wanted to see Cynthia - she's in here too!

Can you have a mid-life crisis at the age of almost 5?

It is Katie's last week of pre-school. Ever. Apparently, this has been driven home a few too many times today, and not knowing this, inadvertently pushed my child over the edge. I was looking at the things she had brought home from school today and asked her if it were her last day at school. She told me that it wasn't because they have school picnics for the next two days. But then she's done with pre-school and she "doesn't have to go back. Ever!"

I followed up with telling her "you know what that means... you go to kindergarten next fall!" She said "I don't want to go the big kids school!!... I don't want to be a big kid! (getting louder).. I want to be a little kid!!" At this point she is jumping up and down in complete desperation and big crocodile tears are running down her face. I felt so bad for her. But more so for me. I was planning on being the one not handling this well! Now all of a sudden I have to be strong for her because she's not handling it well? So not fair!

And yes, I did give her a big hug and tell her that she would always be my baby. I also told her that the big kids school had a class for little kids in it, not to worry, she wasn't going to be a big kid right away. She calmed down, but I still feel bad. She's got a rude awakening coming.

Who's the grown up here?

Katie has been having bad dreams about a rhino eating her. That might sound odd unless you've watched the movie James and the Giant Peach. Good movie, but does have a somewhat scary scene with this rhino. She's had this dream four or five times now over the course of a month. What's odd is that she saw the movie months and months ago and is just now starting to have the dreams.

This morning I told her that I thought we should draw a picture of a rhino tonight and then cut it up into little bits so it goes away forever. My "mature" daughter said, "No we should cut him out and play with him." "Ah, so when you see him in your dreams he'll want to play with you, huh?" She's a smart cookie.

More Pics

The down to earth, apple pie, ribbons & bows Katie:

The "I'm going to buy my mommy a summer house right after my first Oscar - which should be next year" Katie. Waiting for her next scene.
